Eric checked over his gear to make sure everything was secure for the trip, he had been through the gate twice so far and knew it was a bumpy trip.

"Alright everyone! I want a clean sweep of the immediate area!"

The gate begins to spin up with a sound not unlike stone grinding against stone as the inner ring rubs against the outer ring.

"Blackburne, Willims. You will take up the right side and sweep out. Howards, Yadin. You two are with me sweeping left."

The first chevron locks in, the Tech Sergeant crackles on over the intercom, "Chevron one encoded!"

Even when she'd been in IDF she'd never really been a soldier.

Sarah stared up at the spinning gate, still skeptical even to the last minute. She shifted her weight to her good foot and shrugged her pack higher onto her shoulders. She'd passed the physical by the skin of her teeth. It had been a week since she last used the cane. She was still popping 'grunt candy' though.

Sarah filed the orders away in her mind and took out her Jericho. She wasn't stepping into the unknown without her pistol ready. She preferred the compact pistol to the MP5 slung over her shoulder--still thinking like a spy.

"Chevron four encoded!"

A slight tremor could be felt through the floor. Sarah's heart-rate sped up a little and her eyes slid over to the only companion she trusted. Daniel was a bear of a man and she wished she was ordered to stay with him. He'd pulled her out of hell, him and a few of his men. She didn't know him well, but he was a familiar face and that was a breath of fresh air--even if he was male. He was probably the only male, aside from her brother and biological father, that she trusted with her life, and that only because he'd saved it.

She had to learn to adapt again.

Sarah stood at the foot of the metal ramp, waiting as if on the edge of a precipice.

When the gate opened it would signal the end of her former life. She would have to become a different person, adopt different skill sets, think differently. Nothing she had been would matter anymore.

She exhaled slowly, nibbling at her lower lip.

"Chevron five encoded."

((OOC: The condoms are for carrying liquids and the tampons are for soaking up blood, you perverts.))

Dan was new. Nobody here knew him. But they still stepped aside as he passed through. It wasn't his size or his British BDU. It wasn't how his heavy jaw was set in a grim, almost-murderous expression(it was his default face - unless he was smiling, he looked violent). It was the profound lack of identification. No name on the uniform, no unit or rank identifiers. And on a military base, that meant one thing and one thing only. Tier One.

And when a Tier One operator was passing through, people moved. Even in Cheyenne Mountain, it wasn't often that they got a visit from a man authorised to wear a uniform with nothing to identify him, and frankly, some people found it disturbing. Dan handed off his briefing file once he'd collected his equipment from the armoury, slinging his PDW over his back and carrying his rifle by hand. Most of the Colt's ammunition was in his backpack - the short-barreled M4 was secondary to the big Remington. The A3 was chambered in the familiar .338 Lapua. The recoil, at least, would remind him of his home unit.

The half-colonel was used to operating away from friendly forces. He traveled heavy, and in his mind it was a fact of life in his work. To him, his pack weighed what it weighed and his runs only stopped when his pursuers had stopped chasing him or were dead. He shifted his heavy shoulders a few times to make sure his sleeves wouldn't roll down over his kevlar guard sleeves. They were designed to protect welders and steelworkers from burns and cuts, and worked almost-flawlessly as protectors when wielding a knife or defending against one.

Dan entered the gate room in dead, stony silence, nodding in confirmation as the Navy SEAL gave his orders.

His inner geek, however, was pretty excited to be traveling through a wormhole.

Sandy hustled through the hallways, making her way to the Gateroom as quickly as possible. She was going to another planet.

She was going to another planet.

She was going to another planet!

Inwardly, she was freaking out in a very good way and bouncing like there was no tomorrow because, once again, she was going to another freaking planet and how freaking awesome was that? and really, inward bouncing was definitely an appropriate response. Hell, outward bouncing would have been an appropriate response.

Sandy watched, filled with excitement and no small amount of trepidation, as the Chevrons spun into place.

She was going to another planet. Holy hell, she was going to another planet.

She could just imagine the family dinner, if she were allowed to tell people and she were still on speaking terms with most of her family. Her father would start talking about her second oldest brother's accomplishments and Sandy would say very matter of factly, "I've been to another planet". But that wasn't about to happen, for oh so many reasons.

Large blue eyes filled with wonder watched the scene go by.

The inner ring of the gate spun to its last symbol and locked in.

"Chevron seven locked!"

Immediately followed was a sight that one never forgets; a huge explosion of water, but not water. Every person jumps back in startled amazement when they see it for the first time.

Eric smiled, its been the third time he has seen this but it still is amazing.

The explosion of water quickly caved back in on itself before settling down to the illusion of a calm rippling pond of water.

"Alright, SG-1. Lets move out."

The Commander moved towards the gate with his MP5 at the ready, took a quick glance back at the rest of the team then passed through the gate.

Sarah took a step forward just as the Gate cascaded open, feeling her hair move with suction of the unstable vortex. She was still far enough away that there was no danger. It was as if the waters had rushed forth and in their wake was her new life. She didn't pretend it would be easy, but it would be worth it.

The rush tingled her skin as she stepped toward the Gate. Her Jericho was held at the ready as she approached. Her mind filled with reasons how this couldn't be possible, or why she shouldn't be there--but none of that mattered once she reached the shimmering pool.

Sarah stopped at the threshold and reached out, touching the shimmering pool but not getting wet. Of course she wouldn't get wet--it wasn't water.

Water or not water she took a deep breath before stepping through.

Dan kept his composure as the unstable vortex erupted from the gate - but that didn't mean he didn't react. He shifted his weight away and stepped his right foot back, halfway into a firing stance. His left hand didn't move but his right hand shifted back along his stock, somewhere on the way to dropping for his sidearm. It was a reaction that a man couldn't really stop, even when he knew the shock was coming. Some things made even the unflappable flap from time to time.

Crichton took a glance back at everyone - Dan had started moving at the same time as the OIC, but took his time ascending the ramp. Dan simply stepped right on through as Yadin stopped to palm the surface of the wormhole. This was work, not a field trip to the local science expo.

Once he landed on the other side, he shoved his rifle's safety to fire and moved right, shouldering the weapon and looking over the scope for any movement (he was good, but it was a physical impossibility to sweep an area as quickly with a scope as he could with his full field of vision).

When the vortex opened, most people in the room shifted, stepped, or jumped backwards. The only people to reflexively move forwards were the two girls, something that Sandy found interesting somewhere in the back of her mind. Most of her mind was focused on the Stargate itself, staring at it wondrously and trying to figure out how it worked. Her fingers itched to touch and investigate, and oh, you had better believe she'd be tracking down the egg-heads at some point and picking their brains on it because this was fascinating! and they were going to be going through this alien vortex.

It was suddenly starting to hit Sandy just how insane this was. Kind of like milk. You had to cock your head and wonder just who came up with the bright idea to drink this stuff that came out of cow udders. You had to cock your head and wonder just who came up with the bright idea to step through this vortex not knowing where it was going or what was on the other side or even if you'd survive the trip to wherever it was going.

This thought process didn't prevent Sandy from stepping through the Gate, instinctively holding her breath for the trip.

Mission: Mousetrap (Invite) Empty Re: Mission: Mousetrap (Invite)

Post by Mouse Fri Aug 31, 2012 9:10 am

Mouse watched the chaos around her from the safety of the trees. The trees were safe. No one could get lost in the trees as quickly as she could. Her clothes were mostly earth tones to begin with, and they'd gotten plenty dirty during her... adventures, so they blended in even better than they had when she'd first escaped from Master's. She hadn't had a bath in she didn't even know how long, but the dirt would help her blend in, too, not just her clothes. Mouse had learned a while ago that as long as you weren't wearing things that stood out, the best thing to do was go completely still, and most of the time, someone's eyes would pass right over you.

'Course, the best thing to do was not draw any attention to you in the first place. Then you don't have to worry about going invisible.

The little village that she was watching had built itself up around The Ring. There were a lot of legends around it, but Mouse had always thought they were just that: legends. Most people lived in fear of the Gods' return. Those who didn't still paid attention to the legends, just in case. Mouse didn't care one way or another about the Gods. Given a chance, she'd spit on them. And then run, because she wasn't a fan of retribution in the form of torture. She knew all too well that there were worse things than death.

The other day, The Ring had come alive for the first time in anyone's memory. Their legends spoke of it, of course, but it hadn't been glowing blue in at least six generations. Most of the villagers had immediately gone down to their knees, because they knew what The Ring meant. Some of the others had run around in a panic. Mouse had simply stayed where she was in the trees and watched. The God that came through and spoke to them said that impostor Gods from Elsewhere might come and try to convince the villagers that the Gods they'd grown up hearing about weren't really Gods, and of course, the villagers wouldn't be fooled by the Impostors, would they? Everyone had shouted "No!" while Mouse stayed quiet in her tree. The God went on to say that if the Impostors came, the villagers should capture them and bring them to him, Lord Yu. The villagers shouted that they would.

That had been one day before. Now The Ring was alive again, and a group of people were coming out.

Mouse didn't care about the Impostors' agenda. All she knew was that they were going to disrupt Lord Yu's plans, and Mouse was willing to do anything to be a fly in the wine for any of the Gods.

She dropped out of her tree silently, crouched on the ground, preparing for whatever action she would need to take.

Post by Eric Crichton Fri Aug 31, 2012 12:18 pm

Eric immediately moved left after exiting the gate, shrugging off the effects of the compression of gate travel, quickly making his way to a proper vantage point to cover the gate and the others exiting out.

His eyes darted around, scanning every nook and cranny of the environment surrounding the gate.

"Clear left." Eric said in a whisper. Not loud enough for anyone in the immediate area to hear him but loud enough for the throat mic to pick it up and transmit to the rest of the team.

Gazing back at the gate area, Crichton was taken by the beauty of the structure covering the Stargate--bright red roof, corners curving upwards, pure white marble pillars held up the vibrant roof and surrounding the structure were four jade lion statues of such pure green it was hard to take your eyes off of.

This place is so much different from the other two worlds I had been to. Maintained much better.

The Commander wanted to say something about it, how it seemed hinky, but waited for the area to be cleared first.

Post by Sarah Yadin Fri Aug 31, 2012 2:03 pm

Sarah stepped through, her body trying to inhale but she'd already done that so she struggled for a moment before finally coughing out. From now on she would exhale before entering the Gate.

It was night, but her eyes adjusted quickly. Sarah swept left like she'd been instructed, following the jade statues with her eyes like they might get up from their columns of cut stone and attack. The lions were incredibly life-like, as if the creatures had been frozen in jade slumber.

The pagoda that held the Stargate was impeccably maintained, like a shrine of high value. Well, what else did one expect of the portal of the gods? Obviously, the MALP indications about this planet were wrong. Why would the area around the Gate be so maintained if the gods were not active on this planet?

Did anyone in the SGC know how to interpret intelligence data?

Sarah started down the marble steps toward the DHD, keeping her senses alert to any sign of danger--and they were all firing. She didn't know why yet, but her warning bells were going off like klaxons in her mind.

Chill, Sarai. You're just being paranoid.

She turned around as she felt a low hum through the broken shells at her feet. The whine of a low-flying aircraft approached through the nearby treeline and raced overhead faster than any jet she'd witnessed on Earth.

Paranoid, not so much.

Dan almost glanced at his left wrist before remembering that his watch meant nothing on another planet (bet Casio didn't think of that when they made the G-Shocks). The pagoda was a damn fancy piece of work, and if he'd had the time, Dan would've paced around to inspect the architecture, but the area was still unsecured. And that was always a bad thing. Then, whatever the Hell that flying thing was screeched by overhead, low-enough that its trail tossed Dan's hair a little.

"Area's clear to my side, but that thing means someone knows we're here. Or at the very least someone will know we're here once it reports back," Dan stated to the SEAL as he shouldered his rifle and followed the speeding aircraft through his scope, "And that doesn't look like anything I've ever seen before."

Dan turned back away from the aircraft, shifting his grip on his rifle to make sure he didn't accidentally muzzle anyone as he went.

"Adjust on the fly or stall and rethink?" Dan queried, returning his attention to the OIC.

Sandy had lived all over the world in her childhood and teenagehood, including in Asia. To her, this pagoda just about screamed Chinese influence, as opposed to Korean or Japanese. Though to be fair, those styles had seriously intermingled over the years, with all three cultures periodically taking over and enslaving the others, only for a revolution to happen and another culture to take over and enslave the other two. It was kind of like a Round Robin Ruling Country.

This planet had apparently not had to deal with all the fighting that Earth's Chinese civilization had, because the pagoda and jade lions were in exquisite condition. Sandy knew archaeologists would be itching to get at the artifacts here if they knew about them.

"My vote would be figure it out on the fly. We don't want to just be hanging around here."

MALP had said there was no Goa'uld presence. MALP was apparently wrong, and Sandy would cheerfully strangle whomever had misread that bit of information. Next time she wound up on another planet, she was taking the damn grenade launcher, no matter how many funny looks she got when she checked it out of the Armoury.

Betcha that grenade launcher would come in handy now, huh, Mal?

Everyone had cleared the area around the gate just in time for a low rumbling accompanied by the vibration of the ground beneath them.

Earthquake?

His eyes darted around, uneasy.

"Okay team, we will wait for this quake to end then--"

A loud screeching overhead interrupted the Commander mid sentence. He never witnessed a death-glider before but he had heard the audio files.

Eric turned and shouted, "HIT THE DECK!"

Three, no, four, NO...eight death-gliders rocketed overhead. The rumbling got louder as the ground shook harder.

"We need to get to the gate! NOW!"

Crichton made a mad dash to the DHD and managed to punch in two of the seven symbols before the gate started spinning.

SHIT!

"Incoming wormhole! To the tree line! MOVE!"

Eric quickly pulled off a bunch of branches from a nearby bush and covered the MALP the best he could before turning around to make a dash for the nearby treeline.

Sarah watched the aerial procession from her vantage point in the shells. Luckily it was night, or her splayed out, upturned body in dark green would be very visible on the white walkway.

Everything happened so fast. As an operator, she was intimately familiar with how fast things could go from 0 to Charrah--but this took the prize. Eric ran for the DHD, trying to get them home before Sheol released its fury.

He was too late.

The feeling she got in her throat the night she met the so-called Iranian saboteur returned.

Sarah was glad that she'd packed lighter than the rest of the team. She wasn't wearing body armor and she wasn't carrying a ton of extra ammo--though that last one she suspected she'd regret soon. If she had her plight would have been a lot worse. As it was she was much slower than any of the other runners, and when her bad foot struck a stone that was it...

She was down.

Sarah breathed out a hiss of pain as she scrambled to get back up on the traction-less shells. She wasn't hurt, but that was precious seconds wasted as the gate ticked off one chevron after another at a much faster pace than the Gate room at the SGC.

More flyers followed the initial... whatever it was. Crichton was fast, but not fast-enough. Dan had made the choice to follow the flying parade with the business end of his rifle - Chrichton was 1) closer and 2) didn't have to suddenly shift as much weight as Dan was carrying between his own huge body and his rather hefty pack. He was used to travelling heavy, but inertia wasn't really something that could be ignored. Even by a "human cheat code" like himself.

Then the problem escalated and they were forced to adapt on the fly. The DHD cut Crichton off after a few button-pushes and began spinning of what appeared to be its own free will. Dan reached the same conclusion as Crichton about halfway through Crichton announcing it. Dan smirked, distinctly not-used-to being less experienced in the field than anyone he worked alongside; it was almost relieving, really.

The treeline was the obvious objective - cover and concealment. He let his rifle hang in its sling and took off at a dead sprint. When he got moving, he was fast. He liked to quote some fitness instructor from the States, a bigger motor didn't slow down the car, too much junk in the trunk did, and he had plenty of muscle to supply the power.

And then Yadin went down, turning awkwardly on her foot or colliding with a rock. Or something.

"...Fuckin' amateurs..." he thought to himself. It was fairly fortunate that she'd flopped into his path, though - he wasn't about to leave anyone behind, let alone one of the women.

Leaning to the side so he could reach, Dan grabbed a hold of Yadin's pack, hauling her from the ground and lifting her far-enough that, in her still-horizontal pose, she would not find herself faceplanting the hillside as he thundered up the slope.

Dan made a bee-line for a fairly thick section of the trees, She-Who-Falls swinging wildly from his left arm as he drew his sidearm (the only thing he was willing to even try firing one-handed right now). From the few files he'd had a chance to read between arriving and being deployed on this mission, he guessed that some alien heavies would be putting in an appearance pretty soon.

And when they arrived, he intended to introduce them to good, honest, copper-jacketed lead.

Mouse clung to her tree as the Flyers sped by. The Impostor Gods were heading towards her, running away from the Flyers.

One of the Impostor Gods fell, and the biggest one picked the fallen one up, not missing a step in the process.

Mouse squared her shoulders, letting go of her tree and darted out from the protection the treeline gave her. She wasn't sure which one of them to address, and people didn't respond very well when you spoke to the wrong one out of turn. She would imagine that Impostor Gods would be even more likely to smite her than normal people.

She figured that the best way to handle that would be to speak to all of them at once, bowing her head low.

If they wanted to kill her for a perceived slight, so be it.

"Come with me if you want to live."

She didn't wait for a response; just turned around and ran. They would either kill her, or they wouldn't. They would either follow her, or they wouldn't. Neither of which could she change.

"Come with me if you want to live"

Dan didn't need to think twice. They were up against an enemy with air superiority (and him without his surface-to-air missile array, today of all days) and being led into an area where they couldn't be seen from the air, with dense-enough canopy that missiles couldn't be launched in with any degree of accuracy (Dan rejected all thoughts of Napalm). And he reckoned he could handle any locals. If this little girl was anything close to the average native, he could probably pick one up in each hand and use those two to beat the rest to death.

Still lugging the extra weight of the presumably-indignant Yadin, Dan let his pack slide off his right shoulder, slung his rifle over his back and restored the backpack strap to its former spot. Following that manoeuvre, Dan reached over his shoulder, unzipping the rifle bag segment of his pack and pulling out the two-foot-long death-spitter that was his PDW.

MP7s and P90s were all well and good if you were shooting at something that would fall to pistol fire (accurate and high-power for their weapon class, but still what amounted to a little .22 magnum round), but in Dan's eyes, they were an adorable experiment and nothing more. He carried a Colt short-barreled carbine with a shortened ("tactical", so said the man-child mall ninjas) stock - it was a small package with a full-on rifle payload. It was ideal for someone who carried a bolt-gun as his primary weapon.

"We got a guide," Dan bellowed at the other members of the SG team, before bursting into the treeline.

He didn't much think or care about Yadin's feelings when it came to bouncing wildly as he carried her - if he put her down running at this speed, her head would become an impact zone, whether he dropped her on her feet or not.

It wasn't that she wasn't grateful for the man's help--she was, but he really could put her down now and if he didn't put her down soon, she was going to curl herself around his arm like a tree limb, jamb her foot into his shoulder, and harm him.

The native woman seemed helpful, and that was a good thing, right? Of course, how many times had she or others she knew been approached by a 'native' acting helpful only to find themselves blown up or assaulted by terrorists. The terms civilian and native meant very little to her--even children were suspicious. That didn't mean she wouldn't give her life to protect the innocent, she would, but the innocent could be used for vile purposes.

"Should we really be trusting her like this?" She asked, having nothing better to do than jostle around. "And I'm not helpless, Blackburne--I'm not injured. I just slipped. I can run on my own power, todah."

Put me down bear-man...NOW.

The last time he saw her she was one breath from death, starved, beaten--a wraith that couldn't hold her own head up. Some images just never left a person.

She was going to have to prove to him that she could take care of herself...and she was off to such a great start.

Crichton was behind everyone else due to stopping to cover the MALP.

Could be seen, a necessity, cutting it close.

Just as a large team of Jaffa begin exiting the gate, Eric dove into the treeline with a thud and quickly spun around to bring his sight back onto the gate.

Good, did not notice me.

Quickly shuffling to his feet, the Commander picked up the pace to catch up with the others following a small framed Asian woman.

After running for a bit, Eric darted in front of the unidentified woman and held out his hands to indicate to stop.

"Wait, wait, wait."

He cocked his head to the side a bit and gave a friendly smile, "Thank you."

Still a little uneasy, he scanned the area around them before fixing his gaze back on the woman.

"My name is Eric."

Pointing at each of the other members of his team, "This is Sarah, Daniel and Sandy."

Mouse ducked her head towards Umbrella. "Mouse. Why are you here? You must be powerful to have one God to speak for you and another to carry you. Why did you come with so few followers?"

Mouse surveyed the group nervously through her hair and almost took a step back away from them. However, she was more afraid to show weakness than she was of standing in their presence and just barely managed to steel herself and stand up straight. She went on to address the speaker.

"You are False Gods, and you stand in defiance of Lord Yu. I can lead you here, I know the land and the people. I will help anyone who stands against the Gods," Mouse continued.

((OOC: Mandarin for "umbrella" is "sara".))

The moment Sarah's feet touched the ground she brushed Daniel off and moved away from him. She was grateful, so she gave him a slight bow of her head and a whispered "todah," but that was all that he got from her because she was pretty much shocked by the native.

The woman thought she was a goddess? She thought all of them were gods apparently, but she was in charge in the woman's view.

Sarah almost laughed, but checked herself by running her fingers through her messy ponytail instead. She threw an apologetic look over her shoulder at Crichton and the others--then she shrugged, a slight grin on her features.

"Powerful enough that I do not fear this Lord Yu. Things are not as simple as they seem and it is not safe to talk here. Lead us somewhere safe to talk and we will explain all."

Oh she had a feeling she was going to be in so much trouble for this later, but you worked with the resources you were given.

Sarah's eyes flicked over the woman's form, matted hair fell over her face and a long scar marred her cheek--an old wound that left the impression of older and deeper ones.

She stepped forward, bending lower to look in the girl's eyes.

"We are grateful for your help, Mouse. We wont hurt you."

There weren't many things that made Dan uncomfortable, but being called a god and going along with it was apparently one of them. He sighed and let his rifle hang idle from its sling, taking a few aimless paces before removing his helmet and running his fingers through his sweat-plastered hair.

"I'm no god, just a soldier," Dan attempted to correct the native, gauging her reaction carefully (if she flew off the handle, imitating gods would be the way to go in future) - the rest of the unit could speak for themselves, but he wasn't going to do anything akin to playing along with the assumption, then continued speaking after a pause, "Yu doesn't even come close to scaring me, either."

That said, Dan immediately turned back in the direction they'd come from, reaching back and tearing the velcro-attached pouch containing his night-vision binoculars from his pack, pulled the binocs from inside and began searching the treeline for movement.

"We're clear as it stands," Dan grunted at no one in particular.

Dan shared the same dislike of being called a god as he did, wincing as she mistakenly labeled them.

"I'm no god, just a soldier" The burly SAS commented.

He moved his position to near Dan and gave a smile, "Truer words, Colonel."

As Dan did, Eric kept his eyes scanning around them to make sure they were not being followed.

"Mouse is it? We are no gods, we believe in the freedom of choice. Being forced to believe in something by penalty of torture or any other means besides free will is wrong."

The Commander looked back at Mouse and gave a friendly smile, awaiting her response.
